A fantastic combination of traditional and modern design in Hiukkavaara

Architecture

Asunto Oy Oulun Soihtulilja was designed by SAFA architect Teemu Leppänen. All of the site’s spacious homes’ kitchen and dining areas combine with the living areas to form a large, continuous area with breath-taking views. The large windows on the downstairs floor of the two-storey homes open out in two and, in some homes, even in three directions to bring nature close, even when you’re indoors.

All of the homes either have a separate utility room or a functional utility area, which makes everyday life easier. The atmospheric saunas provide an excellent setting for relaxing moments, and are situated upstairs near the bedrooms. Each home also has a lovely south-facing terrace.

The courtyard has plenty of parking spaces, some of which are carports with green roofs. Good transport connections to the centre and a bus stop are next door, and make everyday life easy and convenient. The city’s well-managed cycle routes mean that you can cycle all year round, and at home you can store your bicycle in the housing company’s bicycle storage area. Every home has its own extremely spacious storage unit for storing belongings and sports or hobby equipment.

This site is a distinguished and distinct entity, with its high, two-storey design, pitched roofs and colourful facades. Some have said that the site is reminiscent of the old wooden houses in Helsinki’s Puu-Käpylä area. The two-storey terraced homes have the same feel and atmosphere, which I personally love.

Neighbourhood

Asunto Oy Oulun Soihtulilja will be built in the verdant Hiukkavaara area, which is around seven kilometres from the city centre. The neighbourhood is the largest to be built in Oulu and in northern Finland overall in recent decades, and is located near an old barracks.
